My contest entry is "Shiva, husband of Durga" -- to understand this, read the shortened explanation of the holiday "Durga Puja" below:
In eastern India, the holiday, "Durga Puja" is celebrated with public ceremonies. Earthen icons of Goddess Durga and other gods are taken out on the tenth day in a procession to the nearby river, where they are ceremonially immersed. Bengali ladies give an emotion-charged send-off to Durga amidst cheers and drumbeats. This marks the end of the goddess’ brief visit to the earth. Then, Durga leaves for Mount Kailash, the home of her husband, Shiva. Then, the people visit each other’s homes, hug each other and exchange sweets.
